Bjelovar is one of the most beautiful towns in Central Croatia. It is the main administrative center of the Bjelovar-Bilogora County - the easternmost part of Central Croatia. Bjelovar is one of the „youngest” towns in Croatia. The 1765 was taken as the beginning of the city's birth, when a construction permit was issued by Habsburgs. The plan was to build a town that would take over the role of the leading military regiment in the region. This was the merit of the famous Habsburg Emperor Maria Theresa who granted the city a status of a protected city in 1771, which resulted in a remote development.
Apart from architecture, Bjelovar is also known as the town of cheese thanks to the long tradition of cheese production whic is present until this day.
