Biograd, North Dalmatia - Top sights and holiday destinations

In the vicinity of National park Krka, National park Kornati and National park Plitvice lakes, and also cities Šibenik, Zadar and Nin, riviera Biograd will be interesting to all of those who want to see lots of things in little time. The town Biograd na moru (Biograd on the sea) hides beautiful pebble beaches with lots of activities and content and a rich historical heritage (back in the Middle ages, it was the seat of Croatian kings). From our offer of private accommodation in this riviera we recommend pet friendly apartments and rooms, accommodation near beaches and accommodation with a sea view.

In the heart of Northern Dalmatia, between Zadar and Šibenik, the Biograd Riviera has scattered its picturesque coastal towns. Once the capital of a medieval Kingdom of Croatia, Biograd na Moru offers an intriguing prospect for its visitors through its elegant marinas, shady beaches and numerous recreational facilities. The wealth of natural beauty in the surrounding area will make you extend your holiday on this riviera and enjoy yourself for a few additional days.

A royal welcome on the Biograd Riviera

Once the site of royal coronations, today Biograd na Moru (meaning literally "the white city on the sea") will greet you and pamper you in full accordance with its name and tradition.

Situated on a peninsula and having long since spilled over onto the mainland, Biograd na Moru is surrounded with two marinas, totaling some 1000 berths. With its excellent connectivity and the diversity of its beaches, the profile of its visitors ranges widely. Family reunions and sailing explorers are here blended in pursuit of carefree summer fun.

The small towns of the Biograd Riviera - Sveti Petar na Moru and Turanj and Sveti Filip i Jakov, the latter two connected by a walkway - offer exquisite views of the Pašman channel islands. In return, Pašman island itself, Biograd Riviera's neighbor, protects Pakoštane and Draga, as well as the coastal swimmers and sailors, from the strong winds of high seas.

Ancient athletics on the Biograd Riviera

All along the Biograd Riviera, one can enjoy the shade of pine trees in the sand and shingle beaches, while making plans for a night out. There is so much on offer that one can hardly go wrong - a stroll down the promenade, a festival of a capella folk singing or the Biograd Summer Games - a competition in traditional Dalmatian sports and games such as sack jumping, swimming with hands tied, rope pulling... for something more contemporary, try your hand at tennis on one of the twenty or so highly equipped courts.

No visitor should miss the Heritage museum of Biograd, on the very shoreline. Beside its archeological and ethnological exibits, its crown jewel is the entire cargo of a sixteenth-century Venetian trading galley. This collection, unique on the Adriatic, of about ten thousand well-preserved items from the ship's large inventory waits for rediscovery after the ship's sinking near a small island on the Biograd Riviera.

Biograd Riviera in a wealth of nature

Pakoštane and Draga in the hinterland of the Biograd Riviera are hiding the Vransko lake park of nature, an unmissable sight for bird watchers. Head further down south to the melodious aquatic song of the seven falls of Krka National park.

Vrgada on its eponymous island has for centuries overseen the traffic along the Pašman channel. Set sail away from the shore-hugging islands, towards the Kornati archipelago, or rediscover yourself at the Lake of tranquility in the Telašćica park of nature, amidst twenty-five heavenly coves.

Rest your eyes after the glare of the sun and the water's surface in the forested Paklenica National park, a mere hour's drive from the Biograd Riviera.
