Žirje is 15.43 km2 the largest island in the Šibenik archipelago, and it is also the farthest. It's has a special panoramic view thanks to the numerous bays and a coastline that is 39.2 kilometers long.
Because of its far distance from the mainland, Žirje is a desirable place for people who want to enjoy the comfort of summer in a peaceful way. Today, there are between fifty and seventy inhabitants of Žirje. In the summer, the number of inhabitants is increasing thanks to tourism, but not so much as in larger areas where crowds prevail. Žirje is a true oasis of peace, surrounded by stone houses typical for smaller fishing towns on the Adriatic. In the summer months, there are numerous cultural and gastronomic events organized on Žirje, of which the most famous are the fishermen's nights.
Žirje is connected by regular ferry line to Šibenik. The ferry goes to Žirje twice a day (the schedule can be checked on the Jadrolinija webiste or app), and the ride takes about two hours.
