Mirca, Island Brač

Mirca is situated in a quiet cove on the north coast of the island of Brač. This quaint town in which the traditional ambience of island life has been preserved intact contains no urban developments which would encroach on its pristine nature. Noise and rush are far from the oasis of tranquility which is Mirca, while Supetar and Sutivan, larger towns with more tourist facilities, are within immediate reach.


Mirca - a wealth of history and culture

Mirca has been in its present shape, when settlers began arriving in the quiet Gumonca cove. It remains the hub of the town's life, with its beach and its fishing harbor.

Mirca greets its visitors with the welcoming gates of the Church of the Annunciation. Its interior contains impressive altars and statue, and a valuable work of art by Felix Tironi, an amateur local artist.


Mirca in Brač olive tradition

An indelible link from the traditional lifestyle is olive growing. Hiking trails take the visitors through numerous olive groves, past an oil press still in use, and finally reach the Museum of olive growing and oilmaking. Old-fashioned presses can be seen and their work understood there, as well as their products sampled and purchased.

The feast of Our Lady of Mirca, the town's patron saind, is on July 2, while a lively nightlife scene can be found in the nearby Supetar, where public events include concerts, shows, movie theaters and clubbing.
